July 29th, according to MacRumors, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has advanced the mass production timeline for OpenAI's AI phone from 2028 to the first half of 2027. The device is reportedly designed around an AI agent interface that continuously perceives user context, rather than traditional applications, and may feature a custom MediaTek Dimensity 9600 chip manufactured using TSMC's N2P process, with Luxshare Precision as the exclusive manufacturing partner. If development proceeds as planned, combined shipments from 2027 to 2028 could reach approximately 30 million units. The report also states that OpenAI's first hardware product is expected to be a portable, screenless smart speaker developed in collaboration with former Apple design chief Jony Ive; devices such as smart glasses, smart lamps, and headphones are also in longer-term R&D plans, though some projects may still be canceled.
