South Korean government and industry establish AI Data Center Alliance

On July 29th, according to Yonhap News, the South Korean government, in conjunction with industry, has officially established the "AIDC Alliance" with plans to build AI data centers totaling approximately 18.4GW. The initiative aims to promote the industrialization of AI data center exports by packaging AI computing power output as "smart tokens (AI inference results)" for external export. The alliance will be jointly chaired by the government and the private sector, with 12 leading companies including SK Telecom, Naver Cloud, Samsung SDS, Kakao, KT, and LG Electronics participating. The South Korean government stated that major US tech companies are showing interest and have signaled large-scale investments in Korea. The Financial Services Commission plans to expand the "National Growth Fund" to approximately 200 trillion Korean won, allocating 30% to 40% of it to AI, semiconductors, and power infrastructure to support the construction of large-scale AI data centers and related industries.
