On July 27, according to Tether's official website, XAU₮, Tether's gold-backed token, has obtained Sharia compliance certification from Amanah Advisors. Each XAU₮ represents one ounce of physical gold held in custody in a Swiss vault. The issuer, TG Commodities, ensures real holdings and verifiable asset backing, without involving interest (riba), leverage, or derivatives. This certification provides a digital gold tool for scenarios such as Islamic banking, Islamic insurance (takaful), compliant savings, and long-term wealth management. It also supports the integration of blockchain infrastructure with traditional physical gold holdings in regions like the Middle East, Gulf countries, South Asia, and Africa for applications such as compliant collateral and trade finance.
