Metaplanet Acquires Siiibo Securities, Plans to Build Bitcoin Fixed Income Market Based in Japan

en
On July 27, according to The Block, Japanese listed company Metaplanet has acquired Siiibo Securities, which holds a Type 1 Financial Instruments Business license, allowing it to design and sell securities in Japan. Research firm Benchmark noted that the market generally views this acquisition, valued at approximately 2.1 billion yen (about $13 million), as a small-scale expansion. However, Metaplanet actually plans to use this as a foundation to issue Bitcoin-collateralized bonds called "Bitbonds" with an annualized yield of about 4%-6%. Subsequently, it aims to migrate these onto the blockchain and settle through stablecoins, gradually forming a secondary market. Metaplanet's goal is to enable companies looking to adopt a Bitcoin balance sheet strategy to issue bonds on its platform and purchase BTC. Under its "Project Nova" roadmap, it intends to build a new type of financial institution with Bitcoin at its core. The company currently holds approximately 43,000 BTC, making it the third-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin among publicly traded companies globally.
