Barclays: Gen Z is keen on gambling-style investing, predicting that the market is threatening other speculative investment tools

en
May 16th News, according to CNBC, Barclays analysts pointed out that prediction markets are threatening other speculative investment tools and are already a strong competitor to leveraged ETPs. Nearly one-third of Gen Z and the next generation of Millennials are investing in or considering participating in prediction markets. Barclays data shows that since the 2024 US presidential election, the nominal trading volume of prediction platforms has continued to grow month by month. In April, Kalshi and Polymarket's nominal trading volume exceeded $24 billion, almost equivalent to the scale of "call option oversubscription strategies" for indices and individual stocks, while a year ago this figure was only $5 billion. However, prediction markets are still difficult to compete with the retail flagship product 0DTE at this stage, with the S&P 0DTE market's total trading volume reaching $57 trillion in March this year.
