Myanmar Passes Anti-Online Scam Law, Cryptocurrency Scams May Face Life Imprisonment

According to foreign media reports on July 28, the Myanmar military-backed parliament passed an anti-online fraud bill on Tuesday. The bill stipulates that individuals operating online fraud parks or engaging in "digital currency fraud (cryptocurrency fraud)" can be sentenced to life imprisonment. In addition, if individuals coerce others into engaging in online fraud through violence, torture, or illegal detention, they can face 10 years to life imprisonment; if the circumstances lead to the victim's death, the maximum penalty is death.
