A Google software engineer is accused of profiting over $1.2 million from Polymarket using confidential data.

On May 31, Bitcoin.com reported that Google software engineer Michele Spagnuolo has been charged with merchandise fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. Authorities previously accused him of profiting from Polymarket contracts using confidential Google data. According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), prosecutors stated that he profited over $1.2 million through a Polymarket account named "AlphaRaccoon." At the heart of the case lies Google's "2025 search results." Prosecutors allege that Spagnuolo obtained internal search ranking data labeled "Google Confidential" and used this data to trade contracts related to the most searched individuals and the top five searchers in 2025. Authorities claim he invested approximately $2.75 million between October 15 and December 4, 2025.
