Echo Protocol announced on X that earlier today, unauthorized eBTC activity was discovered on Monad, leading to unauthorized minting and related fund losses. An investigation revealed the issue stemmed from a compromised administrator key affecting the Monad deployment. Approximately $816,000 in funds on Monad were impacted, according to current findings. The Monad network itself remains unaffected and operational. The team has been actively investigating potential cross-chain risks, coordinating with ecosystem partners, and implementing additional safeguards. Control of the administrator key has been successfully regained, and the remaining 955 eBTC held by the attacker have been burned. This incident is currently confined to Monad, with no evidence of impact on Aptos. The aBTC on Aptos and eBTC on Monad are distinct, non-cross-chain assets. As a precautionary measure, Echo has paused the cross-chain functionality of the Monad deployment and upgraded related contracts, while also fully suspending the operation of the Aptos cross-chain bridge. The team is conducting a thorough review of the affected deployment and bridge infrastructure and advises users to avoid interacting with unofficial links.
