Polymarket has been exposed for allegedly paying influencers through personal accounts to subtly "promote" products and predict market trends.

en
On June 5th, POLITICO reported that Matthew Modabber, Chief Marketing Officer of the prediction market platform Polymarket, transferred approximately $2.5 million to over 800 individuals via his personal PayPal account between January 2025 and February 2026. At least $350,000 of these funds were directed to content creators including Nick Shirley, Alex LoRusso, Brian Krassenstein, and Riley Gaines. Approximately 490 pieces of content related to Polymarket were posted on X by at least 20 influencers who received payments, without explicit disclosure of paid promotions. Some of the content, provided by the platform, highlighted the supposed "accuracy" of predictions and drove traffic around topics such as Trump's re-election, the DOGE government efficiency project, and xAI collaborations. The FTC mandates that influencers disclose any "substantial connection" with advertisers, but has not yet provided a clear response concerning the prediction market scenario.
